Coach Steve Carroll played goalie at Edina-East High School and led the Hornets to the Minnesota State High School Tournament.

In college, he became an All-American netminder for Mankato State University (now known as Minnesota State University, Mankato) while helping the Mavericks capture the NCAA Division II National Championship.
